ah..its that time of the year again..

the season..

spring??

nopie, though i’d have to say that it’s goin on great so far..

summer??

nopie, without the noisy floor people, it wudnt be as fun but i’m planning to spend more time outdoors this time..

holiday season??

hmm..tiz the season that comes b4 the holiday season..

its the EXAM SEASON!!

and the forecast for this season is the same year in, year out :

> printers will run dry

> papers are in short supply

> food is scarce

> acne eruptions are highly possible especially along those facial contours

> violent tempers may strike without warning

> disappointments are widely scattered

> a listening ear is very much needed and perhaps lots of tissue too

hmm..every year during the exam season, i see the same thing, hear the same story..and they are more or less always the same people who always dominate the news..with some new additions once in a while..

blame the system??

maybe..

is it becos you oredy know the questions beforehand that it becomes so easy to print out the answers??

is it becos the variants become known before one actually sits for the exam??

yeah i know some teachers show their students the variants so that you know the question combo..but i ( prefer ) to think that they did that simply so that you’ll get an idea of what to expect..what those clinical cases are gonna be like..not so that you can shrink all the answers into a 5×5 square piece of paper in fonts fit for an ant to read..

personally, i would love to have some idea of what to expect..so i wouldnt say that i dunno what questions or clinical cases come out - either from the teachers or from a friend..

but beyond that, i think that one must put hard work to get that mark on the little blue book..i know of those who stay awake the whole night revising for an exam and i also know of those who stay awake the whole the night preparing back-ups for an exam..and studying til your brains run dry doesnt always guarantee you a good mark..

once, maybe twice or even thrice..i copied too, for physics - i mean, who didnt?? and i would probably have copied for chemistry too, it was my bad luck that i didnt have anything to copy from and neither did anyone else..that was 3 years back..and i brought back the “toyol” home and came out clean in front of my parents..of cos they werent very pleased, especially my mum ( she’s a teacher, whatcha expect? ) but that was the last of it..

but apparently for some, once you get the taste of it, its very hard to let go..

i’ve seen my share of big fat tears and solemn words spoken over the phone to a parent for being unable to finish an exam on time…the promises made, the regrets..i had comforting words to offer then..wow..and a few years later down the track, i still see big fat things - big fat lies and big fat bulging pockets, ‘cept that now it has become an absolute necessity and with that, the size becomes smaller, but it’s big and fat to me nevertheless..and this time, i only have a blind eye and much scorn which, by the way, is priceless to be offered to those who have little to value..

so to those who have lost faith in the exam system, i implore you to not lose faith in yourself..easier said than done, it suffices to know that there is light at the end of this tunnel..and for the others, there’s a light too, in the middle..the end of the tunnel, as far as i can see, remains bleak for some..so dont lose hope, keep on studying, colour those papers til your highlighter runs dry, be confident of yourself, dont become nervous or agitated in front of the professor, stay cool and answer with a level head and hopefully, you will be rewarded for your hard work..

that stethoscope hanging around your neck should have brains that know how to handle ‘em and you my friends, have what it takes..

GOOD LUCK FOR THE EXAMS!!!
